"Winded Pine" is a long-form composition that uses steel guitar in three varieties: dobro, lap steel, and pedal steel guitar. In parallel with these varieties, it has three movements, the first featuring pedal steel, the second dobro, and the third lap steel. I find the third movement the most satisfying. There I pitch shifted one of the lap steel parts down an octave which gives the piece, as a whole, a sense of openness as it concludes. Also, as the third movement opens, I introduce a field recording that I made while waiting for a bus to the airport -- a moment of quiet that, at the time, seemed to come out of nowhere.
