about

I began the process by recording some improvised synth notes onto cassette tape and then, recording the tape into my DAW, these recordings make come and go throughout the piece. accompanying this is some acoustic guitar improvisation that I put through a granular synthesizer that sort of bubbles and stutters. some synth chords are then built around these notes CM GM FM7 FM while in the back ground some intermittent plucking on the ukulele. I re-recorded these chords onto some more tape but this time playing a slow melody alongside it, I used my korg poly-800 which I find, tends to have a kind of shimmering quality when used a large amount of reverb. these chords very gradually become the focus as the synth notes fade out aimed at giving you a sense of departure from your current surroundings. I added some more synth layers to these chords/melody, opening the filter to let in some of the higher end of the frequency spectrum, I hope this excites you about your journey. Again I gradually removed parts of the track leaving us with the synth chords as the focus and after a short moment of calm, began to introduce some guitar swells while re-introducing the synth notes on tape previously mentioned. I ended this calmer section by excluding all of the synth and guitar parts and leaving a droning d minor synth chord, this droning chord continues on and then is joined by the rest of the tracks for the final section.
I aimed to have three sections representing departure, traveling and arrival. I'm imagining this to accompany you on a on a cruise ship from the city to a coastal town.
